Let’s Talk Makeup

Hi girls! I need your help. I have been a Mary Kay foundation and mineral powder girl for years, but I am out, and honestly up for a change. I want to find a new foundation, and powder. I like a medium coverage foundation, not too heavy-but also smooth and even enough to be flawless. And I like loose powder. Suggestions? I am however married to by blush, so that will not be changing. But I am open to a foundation/powder change. And I need it fast. Make me proud. The person with the winning suggesiton will win… a surprise from me and Sadie! I promise it will be good 😉

  1. I switch back and forth between Bare Minerals Powder Foundation and Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Foundation. They are both amazing in their own way.

The Bare Minerals is really smooth and looks flawless. You can even use it with the concealer brush as concealer and it hides imperfections great!!! I use this when it's really hot outside or I don't have time to apply the liquid foundation.

The Clinique Acne Solutions Liquid Foundation is AMAZING!! It has salicylic acid in it to prevent breakouts, has a light, airy feel but still medium coverage and looks ridiculously airbrushed when you put it on with a foundation brush. I found it a couple months ago on another blog and have been faithfully using it since! I'm in love! 🙂

    Good luck girl!!

  2. Oh and I just noticed the first comment about Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and I agree…it is GREAT!!!!!! I couldn't believe how nice it made my skin look. My only problems with it was that it isn't medium coverage (since of course it is a tinted moisturizer) and it was a little dark on my skin. Other than that it's good stuff and it's non-comedogenic which is awesome! 🙂

  3. Molly says:

Laura Mercier everything! Foundation, tinted moisturizer, secret camouflage, and powder. Not all at the same time of course 🙂 Oil free tinted moisturizer in summer and foundation in winter. The secret camouflage is awesome because it's two different colors for concealer and you can mix to match whatever color you are at the time. It's good stuff! I wear Nars blush in Orgasm as well!

  4. This is only my favorite topic in the world!!!

I think Dior has the best foundation, if you're willing to spend a little more. The best foundation I've ever used by a long shot is Dior's Airflash–it's a spray foundation, which I was super skeptical of at first, but seriously it will make your skin look like a doll's. The only downside is that it's $60. Lately I've been opting for the slightly more economical choice: Dior's Extreme Wear Flawless Makeup (which also has SPF 25). This foundation is $44, I believe, but it lasts a really long time.

Clinique's clarifying makeup is another favorite, for a less expensive option.

I'm pretty stuck on my powder. I use Clinique's Superpowder double face makeup. I have light/medium skin and I use 07, Matte Neutral. It's got great coverage, but isn't heavy!

I know Nars Orgasm and it's fantastic, for sure. But I have to say that despite being very particular about my makeup . . . the one thing I consistently by from Walgreens is blush! I'm totally obsessed with Cover Girl's original blush in Soft Mink. It's so shimmery and so pretty and I love it more than any of the expensive brands!

I could go on and on . . . hope this is helpful!

  5. I am not an expert in this area, but I have bought lots and lots of makeup from high to low. Currently, I am using MAC Studio Fix powder foundation. I like it a lot, but I just wish I could find something more moisturizing without making my skin oily. I was a Nars Orgasm user forever and ever, but I ran out one day and ended up buying cheap CoverGirl (don't remember the name) and it works pretty well. I will be buying Nars again soon though. Let us know what you end up buying and if you love it or not 😉

  6. Bare Minerals is my FAVORITE! It's so light and doesn't feel like you're wearing anything but it still covers what needs to be covered 🙂

  7. Dree says:

I'm envious of your openness to new makeup, I am so picky about it. Please let us know what you decide, and maybe I'll be brave and try it!

I always do Clinique for my foundation, powder and blush. For foundation I have used both the Superbalanced makeup and the Acne Solutions makeup, and I couldn't choose a favorite between the two of them because I love them both. Then for the powder I use their Stay Matte powder. I like Clinique because with their skincare analysis you get something that you know will work for you!

  8. I tagged you for an award!

  9. You need Laura Mercier like I need a year's worth of carrot sticks (and that's a lot). Today is my first day with Pur Minerals after having been a BM/Mac girl for the last 3 years, so I'll let you know how that turns out.

PS – Why doesn't your comment box pop up on my Firefox windows? Are you anti-FF? HUH?! HUH?!

  10. Bare Minerals all the way! you use the different brushes to determine the "thickness" of how much you want on your face. I use a small concealor brush for my undereyes and any troublesome spot and then something like a blush brush for all over so its light. It stays on ALL day and it has SPF in it! check it out..seriously..they even have starter kits!

  11. I use ColoreScience, found here: http://www.colorescience.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=1 for foundation/mineral makeup and Arbonne "no sun intended" bronzer.

  12. Sophie P says:

BEAUTIFUL blog Miss 20 something… I feel you girly about the whole blush thing! New follower xx

  13. Meghan says:

Honestly the best foundation I have ever used is Almay smart shade makeup. It's inexpensive, has spf 15, and blends like a pro. I can't rave enough about it. You have to try it!

  14. Nicole Z says:

I am about to run out of my foundation as well and am looking for a change as well! So glad you asked this question to bloggy land because I wouldn't have thought about it, haha. I've been using Bare Minerals for years but it is time for a change 🙂
P.S. I left you an award on my blog 🙂

  15. Oh, I love a good make-up post! : )

Ok, I LOVE Lancome Teint Idole foundation (not sure how you pronouce it, but the girls at the counter always know what I mean.) It's super creamy and stays on all day without having to reapply (YAY!)

I also love MAC Prep and Prime translucent powder…It gives your face just a little glow without being too shimmery and it's nice and light for summer!

  16. I love laura mercier's foundation – kinda pricey, but amazing! And I balance out the price of that with perscriptives bronzer/blush from Target 🙂

Also, thanks for the tip about strawberry shortcake smart ones – That sounds delicious!!!

  17. Try Glo Minerals for powder, I can't give advise on foundation, I don't wear it. It is kind of hard to find, but if you go to their website you can look where to find it in Lex!

Its very good, and its better for your skin!!

  18. Ashley says:

I gave your blog an award! Check out my blog for info!

  19. Meghan says:

Like a lot of others, I recommend Bare Minerals too!

  20. Jill says:

Can you give us an update on your makeup changes, PinkLouLou? I've been using a different foundation here lately and I'm not sure I'm 100% happy with it!
