My Guardian Angel

I have no doubt in my mind that my Aunt Debbie is my guardian angel. A year ago today, my aunt passed away unexpectedly, and it devastated my family.  I remember exactly where I was when my sister called me. I immediately just cried, and all I could think about were my cousins, my mother, my uncle Don, and my grandpa. My cousins lost their mother, my mother-her sister, my uncle-his wife, and my papa-his daughter. It was a wave of emotions I had never felt. I was so overwhelmed and my mind immediately went back to the last conversation I had with her. She had called to congratulate me on my engagement. She was so happy for me, and we talked for over an hour. She was so excited to make my wedding cake (she makes the BEST cakes ever!).  My Aunt Debbie and I were always very close. She was an adpi (along with all of my aunts!) and Debbie and I just clicked. She taught me everything I know about hair, and once even gave me a rockin’ upside down french braid (yes, this is possible) circa 1997. I also like to credit my Aunt Debbie for my love of pugs, and Louis Vuitton. She always made me smile, and I always looked forward to seeing her. I have told you all before (here) that she comes to me a lot in my dreams, and it is really the coolest thing. I know that her three children, and her husband miss her everyday.

Ginny, JD, and Lucy, Debbie’s beautiful children!
Debbie, and Lucy at Lucy’s wedding. I love this picture.
My two beautiful cousins, who mean the world to me! And their pug children of course.
Aunt Debbie, I just want you to know how much you are missed and loved. Thank you for your girls, they are so precious to me, and I am keeping an eye out for both of them. Please continue to guide me, and fill me in on little secrets about life. I miss you all the time, and know that you are watching down on us everyday.
Lucy, Ginny, and JD- I am so thankful that God gave me you three as cousins. I am always here whenever you need anything. I love you!!

She sounds like she was an amazing woman. It always seems like the best ones are taken away from us too quickly doesn't it? Continue to be close to your cousins…they'll appreciate the support more than they'll ever be able to say. Thinking of you and your family today and sending big hugs. How fortunate you are to have such a perfect guardian angel watching over you!

  28. "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones shines down to let us know they are with us"

Losing a loved one is never easy…

The only thing that might make it a littl easier is knowing they will be by your side everyday for the rest of your life.

  29. been reading for a little while now.. never commented before. This post meant a lot to me (shaking as I type this..).. I believe wholeheartedly in guardian angels. My grandpa passed away today. A few hours ago actually. I credit him for a lot of what I am today, the career path I've chosen, and what I aspire to be. I wish I would've been closer with him through the years, as you were with your aunt. Unfortunate that we now have this in common.. but today will always be a reflective one for me as well now. Thinking of you.

  33. Shasta Anne says:

Sweet girl I am so sorry for your loss. People would always tell me that grief gets better with time, but what I have learned is that it doesn't get easier, we just learn to live with the loss all while still grieving and missing those we love. We honor them by carrying on their traditions, keeping their memory alive (just as you are doing for your Aunt) and by living our lives with honor and grace. Your post is absolutely lovely, your love for this incredible woman shines through.

  34. Jamie says:

What a sweet post! Your aunt was a beautiful woman…y'all look a lot alike in that first picture!

  35. Marla says:

I love your obsession with pugs! We have a little pug son named Ringo, my mom has a little diva pug like Sadie named Star! I love all the pictures!
