Big Pimpin’ Spendin’ Cheese…

Hey girls, it’s me Brooke! I was so honored that Loulou herself asked me to guest post on her blog that when she said I needed to take time out of my Laudy Daudy vacay to show her bloggies how to make ‘Pimp Cups’ I grabbed another brewski and poured my heart into this little number (e.g. forgive mis-spellings).

First you need a cup/wine glass of your choice.  I would suggest plastic but glass will work too.  I got mine at Target (the red BULLSEYE!) for $2.68.  See exhibit A.
Exhibit A:

Then you need spray paint.  Oil based!  Metallics (gold, silver, bronze) look especially pimp-esque!  Two light coats are better than one heavy coat!!!
Then a few dazzling “Sharpie Paint Markers”.  OIL BASED!  (The water based markers are sold in the adjacent display and can get mixed in so read the label!) This is what you’ll use to make your “logo.”  These markers are the priciest thing on the list so if you only want to splurge on one or two of these fine art utensils you can add more color with gemstones!!!
After you have drawn your logo and made sure it’s DRY, it’s time to BEDAZZLE YOUR HEART OUT!
Several things will work for your pimp crystals.  Self-stick rhinestones are easy to apply but expensive.  A big package of jewels (that’s what she said) of the plastic variety is cheap and Elmer’s glue works like a charm!!!
The bigger the gem stone the more it will try to slide out of place so a little trick is apply a SMALL amount of glue onto the cup… let it dry for a few (30) seconds then apply the jewel to the glue.
AND WA-LAH!   You and Little John are homeys!

Now go forth, and big pimp. Love…

First I love the title of this post… Second the cups are presh and my favorite of them all by far is the "Wildcat Queen" one b/c of all the gem thingy's around it…. Third do the gem thingy's bug you while your drinking around the top of the glass? I'm celebrating my 25th Birthday/St. Patrick's Day in New Orleans this weekend and these would be perfect! I have been inspired and will be visiting the craft store at lunch today for the 3rd time this week to get supplies to bling my pimp cup! Thank you so much Brooke!

  2. Home and Nom says:

  3. Lauren says:

    Brooke,
Me and all my sorority sisters have formal coming up (HOLLA!) SO of course….we ALL want pimp cups to match our pimp dresses! But we just had a question…how on EARTH do you drink out of them if there's spray paint on them? Is there something you do to make sure it doesn't get on the inside? Help! We can't WAIT!
    Lauren

It's Brooke, again! So glad you liked the post. To answer your questions:
Kaila- the gems didn't seem to bother us all weekend. They do get a little lip gloss ridden but, oh well! You can always have some backup gems in case one falls off!
Lauren- if you just paint the cups in 2 phases you won't get any paint inside. Flip them over and paint the top, you can flip them on the base while they dry so they don't stick to the paper or whatever you're spraying them on. Then spray the base. Easy as that!
Abby- i just used regular 'ol indoor-outdoor spray paint that I got at Michael's craft store. If you find non-toxic gold/silver spray paint let me know. But honestly it dried so well I think it was fine!
    Happy Crafting!!!

I am so glad to know this! I actually tried a few years ago to make one, but now I'm finding out that the problem was the type of marker!

I'm new to your blog and am loving your guest blogger, Brooke's, post. I most definitely had a pimp cup (or we called th crunk cup) when I was in college!

  32. Love these! We are making them for our friends birthday festivities next weekend. I'm sure I will post pics in my blog too! Thanks so much for all the great tips. I too have tried to just paint wine glasses before but I think spray painting them first is definitely the extra touch that makes these so fab. Well, that and the jewels, of course 🙂

  33. Question for you or Brooke… Washing the cups? Does the paint wear off? Or does it stay??! I'm making some for my Bunko crew now!
